This course involves the study and practice of the aesthetic concepts and production processes involved in creating all forms of film and television, digital media. The emphasis of the course is to enhance each student's command of the production process in effectively reaching television, radio, film and digital media audiences with their stories and messages. Students leave the course with a fluency in the language of sight, sound and motion.

Upon completion of this course, students are able to explain how master filmmakers and television producers use the fundamental aesthetic tools and concepts to achieve story impact for an audience, large or small, homogeneous or diverse, local or global, including:

  • Lighting

  • Composition and Camera Movement

  • Production Design

  • Picture and Sound Editing

Students learn to apply aesthetic tools and concepts to shape story ideas into credible visual sequences that effectively deliver a screenwriter’s intended story impact in production projects.

During the process, they employ best practices in creative teams to maximize creative output, excellence in visual storytelling and fulfillment in collective achievement.
