Visual Effects for Indie Filmmakers:

A Guide to VFX Integration and Artist Collaboration

by shaina holmes & laurie powers-going

Working with visual effects can be intimidating and this book is aiming to prepare indie filmmakers to work with visual effects teams in every stage of the filmmaking process for low/mid budget films. This book brings multiple voices and perspectives in through interviews of people on both sides of the process, from those working on the VFX side and those on the creative team behind the film. We focus on common misconceptions about VFX and what general knowledge a filmmaker should know before working with visual effects teams, including key terms, budgeting, technology, and expectations. The goal is to make indie filmmakers feel more confident in approaching and planning visual effects, and to be better prepared to collaborate with visual effects teams.
